Robin Antar, the Brooklyn artist known for her stone sculptures of realism, has become the first female artist to exhibit at NYC’s POP International Galleries. The gallery in Soho fills an important niche in New York City, as it is the only street level gallery with a special, fun and important focus. It has been in business for 15+ years, and it has become the pre-eminent center making POP art available to collectors of all types.
The reason why Antar was chosen to exhibit her representational sculptures is because they are iconic sculptures that represent American culture very accurately. In fact, these modern sculptures look so real that they have left many people wondering if they were the “real thing.” Some of the pieces that are going to be on display at the exhibit are Boxing Gloves (carved Carerre Marble and Bronze), French’s Mustard (carved Yellow Travertine), Heinz ketchup (carved Red Travertine), Hellman’s Mayonnaise (carved White Travertine Marble), York Peppermint Pattie (carved stone then cast in stainless steel), Bag of Oreo cookies (carved marble), Bag of Milano cookies (carved marble), Soda Can (carved marble and silver), Paint Tube (carved marble and stainless steel), and Crest toothpaste with Brush (carved marble and vinyl).
Outside of this exhibit, Antar’s work can be seen in a wide array of venues. Some places you can spot some of her contemporary sculptures include: the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum in New Jersey, The Alternative Museum, Montclair State University, Pen and Brush Inc., Bradley Gallery/Indiana State University and New York University, and Loeb Student Center among others. And not only does Ms. Antar sculpt representational sculptures, but she also has a line of abstract sculptures. No matter what kind of sculpture she works on, there is always a guarantee that it will be worked on very meticulously and specifically so that it can achieve what the artist originally set out.
